Live Audition Details


    Welcome to the UC Irvine Dance Department! We are excited to welcome you to our annual live dance audition for admittance in Fall 2026.

                     (must register by January 2, 2026 and must attend ONE date)

    Schedule:  
    7:30 am to 5:00 pm (*You must present a photo ID at check-in.)

    Registration will be held from 7:30 am - 8:30 am. Dancers must remain on campus for the duration of the entire audition, until approximately 5:00 pm, and participate in all portions of the audition.

    Attire:       For all technique portions (Ballet, Modern/Contemporary, Jazz, Hip-Hop), all dancers shall wear fitted dance clothes so the entire body is easily visible, and shoes shall be appropriate for each genre. Hair shall not distract from the visible movement of the dancer nor impede their movement in any way. Please see examples below:

    Ballet

    Modern/Contemporary

    Jazz

    Hip-Hop

    Solid-colored leotard and tights, or unitard. Tights must be full length – no shorts or skirts.

     

    Shoes: Ballet slippers

    Fitted dance clothes

     

    Shoes: Barefoot or socks

    Fitted dance clothes

     

    Shoes: Soft-soled jazz shoes or sneakers

    Free choice of typical hip-hop genre attire. Please do not wear clothing with any labels, pictures, slogans, etc.

     

    Shoes: Soft-soled jazz shoes or sneakers


    PLEASE NOTE: Dancers WILL NOT be given a break to change between techniques. Dancers may change their outfits if time permits; however, it is not necessary.


    Lunch/Snacks and Water:

    Lunch will not be provided. Breaks will be staggered throughout the day. Dancers should plan on bringing their own lunch/snacks and water while on campus. Dancers should NOT leave campus for the duration of the auditions.


    Information Session for Parents/Supporters:

    Information will be offered in-person the day of the audition at 8:30 am. This is a presentation followed by a Q&A session led by Kelli Sharp, Dance Department Chair, and Amy Kim, Director of Student Affairs for the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. It will also include current Dance majors to respond to questions about student life in the Dance Department and University.


    Parking/Drop-Off Information:

    Parents and participants may park in the Mesa Parking Structure at: 4002 Mesa Road, off University Drive and West Peltason Drive (next to the Bren Events Center). Cross the pedestrian bridge on the 3rd level of the parking structure and follow the signs to registration.

    Parking Cost: approx. $15-$20/day (hourly parking is also available)
